We have fantastic news! Mandarin Community will be starting a monthly book club and our first meeting will be on April 23rd at 7pm. Location will be determined at a later date. What will we do? We will eat, drink, be merry and of course, talk about books! What are we reading? Our first book will be “The Brave Dragons” by Jim Yardley.
“The Brave Dragons” is authored by Jim Yardley, a New York Times correspondent and it tells the story of the very first NBA coach, Bob Weiss to be brought over to China to coach a Chinese team and the obstacles he faced. The hilarious and sometimes frustrating events that occur as The Shanxi Brave Dragons attempt to improve their standings in the CBA by copying NBA players and adapting to an American coaching style will resonate with most expats as we’ve all most likely been in similar, albeit non-basketball related situations. The book serves as a good starting point for discussions on Chinese culture compared to Western culture and is a really fun, quick read.
We sincerely hope that you will join us for this discussion and take advantage of the opportunity to meet some new friends!
